On a Sunday conditioned by rain, Bonadio was one of the three Italians over 30 to reach the second round of the qualifiers. After him , Federico Gaio and Alessandro Giannessi did it . The first overcame the Australian Blake Mott with a double 6-4, followed on an experimental basis by Diego Nargiso (who has an agreement with the Australian academy where Mott and the other Aussie Matthew Dellavedova train). On Court no. 14 (where it was played instead of 13, which was impracticable due to the rain), Giannessi won a good battle against the other former top-100 player Gerald Melzer (younger brother of Jurgen, very promising coach Joel Schwaerzler, also him in Milan). He had beaten him two times out of two, he managed to make it three after getting a little nervous in the second set. The good news is that he fought with his usual determination, even though the playing conditions were not easy. Now he will have a very complicated match against the Argentine Federico Agustin Gomez, number 1 in the cadet draw and who has made a great impression, to the point of being a candidate as a possible surprise of the tournament. Although he is 27 years old, he started his career very late as he attended university in the United States, between Florida and Louisiana. Now he is a formidable opponent in Milan . Only six of the twelve first round matches ended, as rain affected the entire day. After an initial suspension and an attempt to restart, the game was definitively interrupted at 6pm. For this reason, Monday’s program will be particularly rich and – weather permitting, the forecast is not good – will force several players to work double shifts. It starts at 10am and will be played on four courts, with the aim of completing the qualifiers and playing the first three matches of the main draw. Fifteen matches are therefore scheduled, including Mager-Pacheco Mendez, Fonio-Bourgue and Demin-Gaubas . Entry to the club will be free until Wednesday 26 June.
